Socio-political Attitudes of Generation Y College Students in Higher Education Institutions in Northern Mindanao
The study explored the socio-political attitudes of Generation Y students in eight higher education institutions in Northern Mindanao. It used the descriptive survey research design with survey questionnaire as the main data gathering instrument. Interview with the respondents was done to for in-depth analysis of the findings. The respondents of the study were the 138 college students identified through simple random sampling. Results of the study confirmed the established descriptions of students belonging to the Generation Y as regards socio-political attitudes. As found in this study, the students had different socio-political attitudes as compared with their predecessor a decade ago. The students of this generation had high inclination towards technological advances; had high desire to stay connected with others; were open to people of different racial backgrounds, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation; had concern about the government and the crisis of the country; and were optimistic that they can make a difference.
