An Assessment on Emotional Intelligence and its Relation to Career Choice of Highschool Seniors

This study aimed to assess students’ emotional intelligence and their career preference when they enter college. The respondents of the study were the fourth year students enrolled in Special Program of the Arts at Lapasan National High School, Cagayan de Oro City. It utilized the descriptive survey design. The study identified that the respondents have higher level of emotional intelligence in terms of self-awareness, motivating oneself, empathy and social skills and have low level in managing emotions. Also, the preferred career choices to enroll in college of the respondents are Teacher Education followed by Bachelor of Arts, Business Administration, Bachelor of Music, Engineering and other Programs not offered in Liceo de Cagayan University. This study also identified that there is no significant difference in the level of self-awareness, managing emotions, motivating oneself, empathy and social skills when respondents are grouped according to career preference.
