Qualities and Skills of the 21st Century Secondary School Teachers in the Division of Cagayan de Oro City, Region X

This paper explored the qualities and skills of the 21st Century high school teachers in the division of Cagayan de Oro City, Region X. The study is qualitative using purposive sampling and has utilized the phenomenological approach formulated by Zeek (2002).  The study was anchored from Moustakas’ (1994) with modification of the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method to describe, analyze, and interpret the  data. The researchers conducted 21st - century teacher self-assessment test to identify the final teacher-participants  who were subjected to three phases of gathering the data,  the face-to-face interview, focus group discussion, and knowledge and experiences presentation.  Three themes were generated by the researchers  of the 21st - Century secondary school teachers, namely, Theme 1: Teacher acts as facilitators and communicators of the Learning Process; Theme 2: Teachers as Digital Immigrants; and Theme 3: Teachers acts as a visionary incorporating real-life experiences and strengthens career and life skills through an effective feedback mechanism. It is recommended that full support  be given by the school administrators and most especially by the Department of Education. With the full support given them, the 21st century teachers may be fully ready to meeting and fulfilling the demands and needs of the 21st century learners
