Student Engagement and Academic Performance of Paramedical Students

Higher educational institutions conduct research on what promotes student persistence and retention in college. Various researches have shown that student persistence has been linked to student success and student success has been linked towards high academic performance. The study aimed to establish the relationship of the level of student engagement to the academic performance of paramedical students of Liceo de Cagayan University. This study is anchored mainly on Interactionalist Theory of College Student Departure by Tinto (1975) and supported by Theory of Involvement by Astin (1984) and Theory on Student Engagement by Kuh (2003).The study utilized the descriptive research design using survey questionnaire and utilized Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.  The study involved three hundred thirty (330) 2nd year paramedical students of Liceo de Cagayan University, were assessed through a questionnaire regarding student engagement. The results show that student engagement does not improve the academic performance of the paramedical students.
