New Voter’s Level of Political Culture, Level of Political Participation, and Perception of Good Governance in the Municipality of Alae, Bukidnon, Philippines

This study focuses on new voters’ level of political culture, level of political participation, and perception of good governance. It sought to determine if there is association between the respondent’s perception of good governance and their level of political culture and participation in the barangay and the association between perception of good governance and level of political participation. The study employed descriptive cross-tabulation, mean, dependent, and independent t-test, and 100 new qualified voters in Barangay Alae, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon were selected using the purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using an adapted mixed survey questionnaire. The study revealed that new voters exhibit moderate allegiance while possessing a high level of apathy and a low level of alienation from the political system. In terms of the level of attitude towards participation, new voters possessed low levels of Parochiality, and possessed high levels of subjective attitude, but possessed low levels of participatory attitude. Lastly, in terms of political orientation, new voters possessed low levels of affective attitude, and moderately possessed both evaluative and cognitive attitudes. The study also discovered that new voters exhibit moderate participation in the barangay. Significant findings show that political culture and participation are associated with the respondents' level of perception towards good governance. Thus, the study recommends that the barangay should conduct programs to empower new voters’ participation for the continuous improvement of the barangay
