Socio-Emotional Outcomes of Adolescents with Mothers Who Are Migrant Workers

The study aims to determine the socio-emotional outcomes of adolescent students with mothers who are migrant workers. A survey was administered online via University Email to 60 college adolescent students where mostly females in various courses and year levels were the active respondents engaged to the study at the College of Arts and Sciences at Liceo de Cagayan University. This research study utilized a descriptive-correlational quantitative research design in which the outcomes of the data gathered from the respondents through surveys on researchers made questionnaires via Google form. The frequency method was used to assess the demographic profile. Also, the descriptive statistics, mean and standard deviation, are used to determine the socio-emotional outcomes in terms of rule-breaking, verbal bullying, emotional stress and depression of adolescent. The T-test and ANOVA was used to test the hypothesis. The result further showed no significant difference when adolescent grouped according to their demographic profile. This study recommends, the University should allow adolescents to express their emotions for them to feel comfort by using suggestion boxes and giving free programs and counseling for adolescents struggling with the issues mentioned. The mothers should enlighten their adolescent why she need to work somewhere where you will be separated from him/her for long periods of time. Share your goals for working abroad with your adolescents, and make it clear that you will need his or her cooperation and understanding to achieve those goals. Most importantly, keep in touch frequently.
