The study assessed the effectiveness of bark extract of Adenium obesum (Kalachuchi) against Acinetobacter baumannii. The study aimed to determine the antibacterial effect of Kalachuchi extract and to compare it with an antibiotic drug Meropenem against Acinetobacter baumannii; compare the antibacterial effect of crude extract acquired through boiling and soaking of the bark using distilled water; determine the significant difference of the diameter of the zone of inhibition among experimental group; and determine the significant difference on the zone of inhibition between the experimental and positive control groups. The data revealed that Kalachuchi bark extracts (T1 & T2) acquired through boiling & soaking respectively did not inhibit the growth of Acinetobacter baumannii while the positive control Meropenem (T3) was effective in inhibiting the growth of the bacteria as seen in the wide zones of clearing in the agar plates. The difference in the effect of the experimental group (T1 & T2) and the positive control group (T3) was statistically significant. As a conclusion, the extract acquired from Kalachuchi did not show any antibacterial effect against Acinetobacter baumannii.
