Prevalence of Filariasis in Zone 8 Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City

The purpose of the study was to determine the incidence of filariasis in Zone 8, Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.  The study focused on the respondents’ profile in terms of gender, age and occupation. The purpose of the study was to identify the presence of filariasis in blood samples of the respondents. In answering the problems, the study used the descriptive research design employing a researcher-made survey questionnaire to determine the profile of the respondents. Moreover, the researchers assisted the representatives of the Department of Health in the collection and analysis of blood samples from the respondents employing direct examination of unstained blood for the identification of microfilariae in a blood smear (thin and thick blood smear) by microscope examination. In terms of profile, majority of the participants were female, and most of them were within the age range of 3-18 years old. Moreover, the majorities of them were high school undergraduate and were unemployed. The findings reveal that Zone 8 Bulua was filariasis-free during the time the data were gathered by the Department of Health together with the researchers. Therefore, Lymphatic Filariasis is not prevalent in the said area.
