Professional Quality of Life Assessment among Nurses in Northern Mindanao Medical Center
In the health care profession, nurses are among those who are involved in direct patient care. Professional quality of life in the context of nursing is how one feels in relation to his/her work as a nurse. It implies how contented a person is in his/her chosen profession. To assess the quality of life of nurses in Northern Mindanao Medical center, an analytic cross-sectional method of research was employed through survey from the months of April through August of 2015. The data were abstracted from a 200 randomly selected nurses. As regard compassion satisfaction, most of the nurses were able to derive pleasure from their work and have positive working relationships with their colleagues. They feel that they were able to contribute to the hospital and even to the greater good of society. As regard compassion fatigue, a few nurses had feelings of hopelessness and experienced difficulties when handling cases with poor prognosis. Majority of participants also had experienced vicarious trauma which was found to be more common among newly-hired nurses.
