Effect of Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (Imem) to Mindanao Generation Schedule During Imem Commercial Operation

John Michael M. Baclay

Power supply deficiency in Mindanao had been a concern for years resulting in the depletion of gross power reserve in the island thus, DOE along with other government agencies created the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (IMEM) to address the problem that can utilize the excess and unused capacity in the Mindanao Power Grid. The study analyzed the capability of IMEM to supply additional capacity by determining significant change on Mindanao Generation Schedules during the first week of its commercial operation from the secondary data downloaded from the public information website of Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC) dated December 3, 2013, to December 9, 2013. Based on the result output of  SPSS20 Dependent T T-Test analysis, there was a significant difference in the Average Total Generation Schedule indicating that IMEM was able to draw out possible generation capacities from excess and unused capacities in the Grid. Specifically, it suggests that values on “With  IMEM†condition were higher compared to “No IMEM†condition. Therefore, Mindanao Generation Schedule increased during the first week of IMEM commercial operation.
