Early Retirement of Military Personnel: An Exploratory Study
This study was conducted to inquire into the factors, reasons and concerns that play a significant role in the early retirement of military personnel from the service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Specifically, this study aimed to establish the: socio-demographic profile of the respondents; issues that bear on the respondents’ decisions to opt for early retirement; perception of the respondents on retirement-related matters; and significant relationship between the demographic profiles of the respondents and the issues that have bearing on their decisions to opt for early retirement. Survey questionnaires were distributed to randomly selected respondents from the Philippine Army from where data were tabulated and analyzed based on the objectives set for the study. The results showed that work issues, personal issues, financial issues, and some aspects of life in the military service are factors associated with their decisions to opt for early retirement from the military service. This study proposed appropriate policy and program interventions to the Philippine Army relative to early retirement of military personnel.
