The Roles of the Philippine National Police on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency
The study attempted to 1) present the profile of the PNP respondents in term of age, sex, length of service, educational attainment, and rank; 2) determine the roles of the PNP on the prevention of juvenile delinquency; and 3) to find out the significant difference in the roles of the PNP on the prevention of juvenile delinquency when grouped according to their profile. The research was conducted through the descriptive research design. According to Costales (2003) descriptive research means the study focuses at the present condition. The purpose is to find the new truth. The truth may have different forms such as increased quantity of knowledge, and new generalization or new “law†and increase insight into factors which are operating, the discovery of new causal relationship, or a more accurate formulation of the problem to be solved. The study was conducted in Cagayan de Oro City Police Station. The respondents composed of 30 policemen assigned in Divisoria and Carmen Police Station. The data gathering was done through an interview which answers the objectives of the study. The data gathering started after the researcher sent a letter asking permission to the chief of police of the station. The data were presented and organized through the frequencies, percentages and t-test and f-test for the test of the hypothesis. The PNP respondents of the study ensured their best capability to perform their roles in the prevention of juvenile delinquency. The most salient of these roles is that of detection and counseling followed by transformational roles and the informational roles appeared to be the least performed aspects. The PNP ensured their best to be vigilant in detecting possible places where most juvenile offenders come from and from where they are most famous in-breeding place of juvenile delinquency. Knowing their places of origin will somehow enable the PNP to perform their transformational and informational roles easily. Generally, the PNP consistently perform to a very high extent their expected roles in the prevention of juvenile delinquency regardless of age, sex, length of service, educational attainment, and rank.
