The Impact of Educational Assistance Programs to the Urban Poor: A Case Study

The study aimed to ascertain the impact of educational assistance and to determine the impact of the educational assistance on the economic condition of the urban poor in terms of monthly income, education of the children, day to day subsistence, access to health care and dwelling. The study used the qualitative research design to evaluate, collate and integrate responses towards the impact of educational assistance to urban poor. The study utilized an interview guide as the main tool for data gathering. The study was conducted within the city of Cagayan de Oro, specifically to the scholars of Liceo de Cagayan University. The data gathered were presented through frequency count and ranks. The study revealed that the Educational Assistance Program had a significant impact to the lives of the respondents in terms of family monthly income, access to health care services, dwelling and even their day to day subsistence. However,  it can be inferred that the respondents had no difference in terms of the education of children in the family before and after the grant of the Educational Assistance Program.
