| 4. | Description | Abstract | This study determined the causes of political crimes committed in Misamis Oriental to draw suggestions on preventing and suppressing political crimes. The respondents were the political offenders detained in Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail. This descriptive research used an interview schedule for data gathering. Findings reveal that the majority of the offenders had a big family, earning as farmers a very minimal income, lacked education, and strongly adhered to the principles of equality and justice. The main cause of political crimes in Misamis Oriental was social inequality and injustice. Political crimes in Misamis Oriental can be prevented by establishing priority and sustainable programs for poverty alleviation and promotion and protection of human rights.
