| 4. | Description | Abstract | Medline’s medical encyclopedia defines drug abuse as “the use of illicit drugs or the abuse of prescription or over-the-counter drugs for purposes other than those for which they are indicated or in a manner or in quantities other than directed.†This study focused on the incidence of substance use among young adolescents in the city of Iloilo. The study involved both quantitative and qualitative methods of research, supplemented by the records and documents from the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Region VI (Western Visayas). The respondents were 11 teenage substance users. Findings reveal that all the respondents who aged between 9-19 used rugby. Majority of them belonged to intact families, but with parents who had no regular work. The most common reason for sniffing rugby was "tripping". The feeling that the teenagers derived from sniffing rugby was “flying sensation" or light headedness.
