The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the flavonoids obtained from lemongrass .The study also compared its effectiveness to a synthetic drug that has known to be patent anticholesterol medicine. Nine guinea pigs were randomly selected and divided into three groups. All groups were induced with dexamethasone except for the negative group. Dexamethasone is a steroid which increases the cholesterol level. The experimental and the positive group are treated with the flavonoids and synthetic drug. The treatments were given 10mg/kg body weight per day. The flavonoids and synthetic drug was not proven to be significantly effective in reducing the cholesterol level.
