Utilization of the Components of Effective Teaching in the Community by Nursing Students of Liceo de Cagayan University

This research was conducted to pursue the following objectives: 1) to describe the components of teaching as utilized by student nurses during their community health teaching. These components are the teacher, learner, learning environment, lesson/topics, materials of instruction, and administration; and 2) to determine the level of effectiveness of community health teachings among the participants in terms of environmental sanitation. The respondents of this study were the residents of Zone 6, Sugbongcogon, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. They were chosen on the basis of Syvilia principles that the descriptive research design requires a minimum of 30 respondents. The analysis and interpretation of the gathered data was facilitated by the following statistical measures: frequency, rank and weighted mean. Frequency and ranks were used in presenting the distribution of the components of effective teaching as utilized by the student nurses. The weighted mean was used to determine the central tendency of the effectiveness of community health teaching. In the course of the investigation, the following findings surfaced: majority of the participants of the Community Health Teachings noted that the components of effective teaching in the areas as student-nurse teacher, learner, learning environment, lesson/topic and materials of instruction were effectively utilized. The utilization of the area on administration can still be improved to contribute to the attainment of the objectives of the program. On the basis of the findings of this study, the researchers concluded that the Community Health Teachings conducted by the student-nurses of Liceo de Cagayan University were able to utilize effectively and efficiently the components of effective teaching which are student-nurse teacher, learner, learning environment, lesson/ topic, materials of instruction and administration. Such effective and efficient utilization has contributed to the attainment of the goals and objectives of Community Health Teaching as perceived by the clients.
