Environmental Condition and Common Diseases of Children in Zayas Landfill, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City

This study determined the current environmental condition and the common diseases of the children in Landfill, Zayas Cagayan de Oro City. It focused on the following: (1) the profile of the respondents; (2) the environmental conditions of the respondents; and (3) the common diseases among children in the area. The study found that majority of the respondents attained only elementary level and have an income of P3, 001-P5, self-employed, and mostly have 1-2 children in the family. Majority have availed immunization or vaccination for their children, particularly the DPT vaccination. Most of the respondents lived near the Landfill, for about eleven years. Majority of the respondents used tap water, bought their food supply from the market, had an open type of drainage system, lived in a wooden type of residence and have a flush type of toilet.  Lastly, the study revealed that dengue is the most common disease of the respondents’ children in Zayas. Hence, the health of the children living near the landfill is affected by their environmental conditions. The longer they stay in the Landfill area, the more they become at risks of the diseases that can be acquired in the area.
