Social Media Communication Behavior among College Students

The study was conducted to determine the level of social media communication behavior (whether benign or toxic) among the College of Arts and Sciences students of Liceo de Cagayan University. Specifically, the study focused on the following: the students’ behavior when communicating online considering the factors of benign disinhibition and toxic disinhibition; the difference of the students’ social media communication behavior considering their sex; and the significant relationship of sex towards their social media communication behavior. Lastly, the study focused on the factors that influenced the positivity and negativity of the students’ behavior. A descriptive research design was employed in gathering the data which was analyzed using the means and rating to ranking. The results show that CAS students’ social media communication behaviors were highly benign. Moreover, females were most likely to use social media sites than that of the males. Lastly, males were more likely to contribute to the toxicity of social media communication behavior.
