Research Attitude, Competence, and Engagement of Fourth-Year Students of the College of Arts and Sciences

This study explored the attitudes, competence, and engagement in research among the fourth-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences of Liceo de Cagayan University during the Academic Year 2021-2022. Moreover, the study determined if the research engagement has significant relationship with their attitude towards research and research competence. Using descriptive-correlational research design, the study modified existing instruments for data gathering. Data were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that the students had high level of self-assessment in terms of attitude towards research. Although they perceived research as stressful, they believed that research is beneficial to them as they pursue their chosen career. As to their research competence, the students were competent in information seeking and methodological procedures. Also, the students had moderate engagement in research. The test of relationship showed that the students’ research attitude and research competence were significantly associated with their research engagement.
