Level of Library Competency of Research Students

The study aimed to determine the level of library competencies of research students of Liceo de Cagayan University. Specifically, it identified the profile of the respondents in terms of course, year level and sex. It also determined the library materials; frequency of library visit and library materials availed; the level of library competency and its significant difference in the library skills of the respondents when grouped according to their profile. It employed the descriptive – survey research design in conducting this study. Researchers – made questionnaire were used to gather the data. T-test and ANOVA were the tools used in testing the hypothesis. The findings of the study revealed that the highest percentage of respondents were from the College of Education and College of Medical Laboratory Science while the lowest percentage was from the College of Nursing. The respondents were mostly third-year female students and they were highly motivated to visit the library daily.  Books were highly availed as library materials. Citing sources was the highest level of library competency. In terms of course and year level, they had shown a significant difference. As a result of the findings, it is recommended to promote the library materials through a formal library instruction and the library staff should guide the patrons in gathering information. The correlation of library statistics and the level of library competency are recommended for future study.
