Influences of Social Media on Netizens

The study determined the influences of social media on netizens. It aimed to answer the following aspects of the problem: (1) the respondents profile In terms of their age, gender, civil status, occupation, location of internet access, number of hours logged-in daily and type of social media used; (2) the extent of influence of social media among netizens on social behavior, political behavior and economic behaviour; (3) the relationship of social media influences to the gender and occupation of the respondents. In the treatment and analysis of data, frequency counts, percentage distribution and Chi-square value were used. The results of the study showed that most of the respondents’ age range from 20-29 years old. Majority were females and single, they access their internet connection at home, and they logged-in an hour daily using Facebook. The findings revealed that social media has moderate influence on the social and political behavior of the respondents but low influence on their economic behavior. .
