Level of Awareness, Involvement and Barriers to Immunization among Mothers in Valencia City

The study was conducted at Barangay Lumbo, Valencia City, Bukidnon on the mother’s level of awareness on immunization. Respondents should have a child ages 0-24 months. The objectives of the study, were first to determine the respondents profile in terms age, family income, mothers’ educational attainment, mothers’ occupation and a number of children. Second, to determine the level of awareness on immunization among mothers, third the involvement of mothers towards immunization and fourth are barriers for child immunization among mothers. The researcher used the descriptive research design and frequency and percentage distribution and weighted mean. Majority of the respondents belonged to 30-35 yrs. old, mostly high school level and plain housewives. The results showed that the respondents were only aware of the immunization and gained knowledge from the Barangay Health Workers who visited them monthly. Among the sources, the Barangay Health Workers ranked first with a frequency of 49, the Midwife was second in rank frequency of 37. Mostly the respondents were aware that the child should be immunized from birth until two years old. Among the barriers to immunization, reasoned out was that when the child was sick, parents will not havetheir child immunize. Health education and promotion about immunization play an important role in the community for them to understand the relevance of the children’s immunity through the vaccines that they must receive and strengthen their immunity.
