Lived Experience of Filipino Nurses Providing Spiritual Care to Patients at the End-Of-Life

The study aimed to describe the Filipino nurses lived experiences in providing spiritual care to patients at their end-of-life. The study was conducted on selected secondary hospital and the participants were nurses who took care of patients at their end-of-life. A qualitative research design was utilized following content analysis. The focus of research is to describe the meaning of lived experiences on the participants. The method utilized in gathering data was in-depth interview with guide questionnaires. The result shows that the spirituality, the driving influence of the nurses’ behaviour, despite the absence of formal education, and the strong Christian faith inherent to Filipino nurses, has influenced the delivery of spiritual care to end-of-life patients. Furthermore, the struggles and challenges met by nurses during the care of patients and the values learned from those experiences served as basis for professional maturity in the care of patients at end-of-life. It generated distinct Filipino spiritual caregiving perspectives on the nurses’ unique spiritual journey.
