Solid Waste Management Practices in Libona, Bukidnon

Grace N. Cantones

The LGU of Libona, Bukidnon has already prepared a 10- year Ecological Solid Waste  Management  Plan  last  2014.  Based  on  the  plan,  the  municipality  has  limited equipment and man-power to fully implement the plan and to manage solid waste of its residents. The question lies as to how to improve the existing management plan that will not require a toll on budgetary aspects and make it implementable in the community level. This study intended to determine the solid waste management practices in Libona, Bukidnon. It aimed to look into the relationship of the general profile of the residents, along with the current solid waste management practices. The profile of the respondents was determined in terms  of  age,  gender,  length  of  stay,  educational  attainment,  occupation,  and  monthly income. While the current solid waste management practices were in terms of generation, segregation, collection and disposal. Using the Pearson’s correlation test, the results showed that  there  is  a  significant  relationship  between  age  and  segregation,  occupation  and collection, occupation and disposal, and income and disposal. The relationship between the presented factors should be considered to have a better understanding and an opportunity to evaluate and improve the existing solid waste management plan of the LGU.
