Importance of proper wheelchair fitting when neglected creates serious problems among wheelchair users in developing secondary impairments, which may later develop into a disability. Locally, proper wheelchair fit is not given much importance. The study’s main objective is to determine the significant relationship between wheelchair fit measurement and the occurrence of secondary impairments among wheelchair users in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. The instrument used in this study was made by the researchers. It involved getting the demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurement of the user, actual measurement of the wheelchair, examining the occurrence of secondary impairments, and interviewing for the level of comfort, stability, and safety of the user with regards to wheelchair use. The results showed that the seat width and depth has significant relationship with the occurrence of scoliosis and Guyon’s syndrome. Because of this, it is imperative that in prescribing a wheelchair, the physician must make sure that the wheelchair should match to its user. Proper modifications and customizations are needed to address the specific needs of every wheelchair user. In addition, education about proper wheelchair propulsion and body mechanics is also necessary to maximize function and minimize development of impairments.
