The study aimed to determine the relationship between the pattern of scoliosis based on the students and school bag characteristics and the magnitude of scoliosis among students of Liceo de Cagayan University grade school and high school. An analytic observational cross-sectional method was utilized in this study. It utilized the Adam’s forward bending test. This study was conducted within school premises and only covered students from grades 4 to 6 and first and second year high school students. The pattern of individual characteristics that contributed to the study of scoliosis placed emphasis on the age, sex, body mass index, hand dominance, leg length difference and predisposing medical conditions with scoliosis. For the school bag, the characteristics include the type, weight, mode of carrying, and the frequency and duration of loading. The findings revealed that most of the students with scoliosis were from 10-14 years old, females, and the magnitude of scoliosis among 281 students was 7%. All of the characteristics of both the students and the school bag were found not significant to the development of scoliosis among the students. Since a number of students were identified as having scoliosis, it is recommended that scoliosis screening must be included during the process of enrollment.
