Correlation of Writing Quality and Language Learning Attitude among English Learners

This study aimed to determine the relationship between writing quality and language learning attitude among English students. It used blogging as an intervening variable and made use of descriptive research in general. The respondents were the fourth year students of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English in the College of Teacher Education at Liceo de Cagayan University who enrolled in the course English 119 (Creative Writing) in the first semester of the academic year 2017-2018. Of the 24 students enrolled in the said subject, only 11 respondents have completed the required blog entries namely Bio-Sketch, If Clauses, Dear God and Dear Self. In assessing the writing quality and language learning attitude of the students, the researchers used the weighted mean. The students’ outputs were rated using Weblog rubric of Estroga (2011) with the following criteria; content, organization, diction and mechanics. For the significant relationship between the two variables, it made use of Pearson correlation. The study concluded that writing quality and language learning attitude have a significant relationship and blogging has a role in the relationship between the two.
