Attitude and Motivation in Learning English Language

The study was conducted in Liceo de Cagayan University, Kauswagan Cagayan de Oro City. It employed a descriptive research design and the tools used to gather data were questionnaires adopted from previous studies. This study tried to determine the student’s motivation in learning the English language and their attitudes towards it. The following findings: first, an even distribution of the -respondents in each of the 11 colleges, majority females, in private high schools, and  college graduates as to the parent’s educational attainment, second behavioral attitude, cognitive attitude, and emotional attitude towards learning the English language in words described as highly favorable. Third, Students’ motivations in learning the English language verbally described as highly motivated, fourth college and mothers’ educational attainment exhibited highly significant difference as to students’ motivation, also gender, type of high school graduated, and fathers’ educational attainment, also exhibited significant difference, and lastly, cognitive attitude, behavioral attitude, and emotional attitude as components of attitude towards the English language exhibited significant moderate relations with students’ motivation in learning the English language. In conclusion, the study’s data results concluded that the students are highly motivate in learning the English language, and highly favorable as to attitudes towards the English language.
