Practices and Problems of Patrol Officers in Cagayan de Oro City

The study investigates the practices and problems of the patrol officers in Cagayan de Oro City. The study used the descriptive method with the use of interview using the interview guide to acquire the data. The interview was conducted to five (5) patrol officers assigned in Police Station numbers 1,3,5,7, and 9.The findings revealed that the patrol officers have in common the following practices: (1) Police visibility within their areas of responsibility (AOR); (2) They conduct operations aimed at knowing the streets within their area of responsibility (AOR); (3) They conduct operations aimed at knowing the business establishments within their area of responsibility (AOR); (4) They use two-way radios and cell phones for communication needs; (5) They conduct operations aimed at giving advice or information to the residents within their area of responsibility (AOR); and (6) Patrol officers do not submit written reports. They are also common in the following problems: (1) There is insufficiency of funds, resources, and equipments to be used by patrol officers especially the gasoline for the mobile patrol car; (2) Insufficient personnel for patrol functions where it was revealed that only one police officer is assigned per barangay with the assistance of the civilian volunteers organization (CVO); (3) The absence of patrol officers assigned during night shifts (4) Patrol officers do not submit written reports.
